Overweight

'Hindu' reports on a court ruling that Indian airlines cannot ground overweight airhostesses and cabin crew. It is a surprise that the airlines took that decision. Apparently these people had passed medical fitness tests for performing on-flight duties. I wonder what those tests were like - walk up and down the hallway 10 times, Hold up a cup of water for 10 seconds, Bend and pick up a dirty rag from the ground. It makes sense for the airlines to save on fuel costs by disallowing overweight cabin crew. Else the pay scale should vary based on one's body weight. That would get the treadmills going. I don't wish to be insensitive to people's genetic pre-dispositions. But Indians, especially the well-oiled sections of the society, seriously need to shape up. We need to move on from the days where body mass is a direct indicator of one's prosperity.
